How to use the RustDesk remote control tool in IDEAL ADMINISTRATION?

RustDesk Error: “The connection is not allowed” – what should I do?

For the past few days, I have been getting the error message "The connection is not allowed" when trying to establish an Internet connection using the RustDesk remote control tool. Why does this error occur and how can I fix it?

If the following message appears when establishing a RustDesk connection in IDEAL ADMINISTRATION:

“The connection is not allowed. Please log in first...”

this means that the RustDesk public server is currently refusing connections without authentication.

This behavior may occur temporarily when the public server applies additional restrictions to limit abuse or attacks.

➡️What is the immediate solution in IDEAL ADMINISTRATION?

The recommended solution is to enable the option:

Force LAN only mode

In this mode, IDEAL ADMINISTRATION no longer uses the RustDesk public server to establish the connection.

The communication is performed directly over the local network between the administrator workstation and the remote computer.

➡️Why does this option solve the problem?

When LAN only mode is enabled:

  • the connection no longer depends on the RustDesk public server
  • no RustDesk account creation is required
  • no external authentication is required
  • remote control works immediately again on the LAN

➡️How to enable LAN only mode?

In the RustDesk configuration window of IDEAL ADMINISTRATION, enable the option:

Force LAN only mode

After enabling it, you may need to restart the RustDesk service on the remote computer to fully apply the change.

➡️What are the limitations of LAN only mode?

This mode works very well in internal environments, but it has an important limitation:

  • the connection only works on the local network
  • connections via the Internet or outside the site are no longer possible

In other words, this mode is ideal for:

  • computers located within the company
  • servers accessible on the LAN
  • environments where WMI and remote administration are available

➡️Do I need to create a RustDesk account?

No, not if you use LAN only mode.

A RustDesk account is only required when relying on the public server enforcing authentication.

In IDEAL ADMINISTRATION, the LAN only mode is specifically designed to avoid this constraint.

If you need to keep RustDesk connections over the Internet, the recommended solution is to use a private RustDesk server.

This architecture allows you to:

  • eliminate dependency on the RustDesk public server
  • remove limitations related to public account requirements
  • maintain stable and controlled operation

Summary

If the error “The connection is not allowed” appears:

  • the RustDesk public server is blocking unauthenticated connections
  • enable the Force LAN only mode option in IDEAL ADMINISTRATION
  • the connection will work again on the local network without a RustDesk account

For Internet connections, using a private RustDesk server is the most reliable solution.
