How to use the RustDesk remote control tool in IDEAL ADMINISTRATION?

RustDesk Error: "Failed to connect to rustdesk.pointdev.net:21116"

I have just purchased a license for your IDEAL ADMINISTRATION tool because I would like to use your secure Pointdev RustDesk server for remote control over the Internet.

I systematically get the following error:

“Connection error. Failed to connect to rustdesk.pointdev.net:21116: Please try again later.”

My tests are being performed on a local network. The services required for this feature to work properly seem to be running, however.

Do you have any idea what could be blocking the connection?

What does this error mean?

This error indicates that the workstation is unable to establish an outgoing connection to the secure RustDesk server from Pointdev:

  • Server: rustdesk.pointdev.net
  • Port: TCP 21116

The blockage is generally related to a network restriction.

Why does RustDesk try to contact this server?

RustDesk works in three steps:

  1. Contacting a “rendezvous” server
  2. Attempting a direct connection between the two machines (P2P)
  3. If this fails, using a relay server (port 21116)

Even on a local network, RustDesk initially attempts to contact the secure Pointdev server.

Can it work on a local network without Internet access?

Yes, theoretically.

If:

  • Both machines are on the same network
  • No internal firewall blocks communications

The connection can be established directly.

However, if Internet access is blocked, RustDesk may display the error even on a LAN.

What are the most common causes?

  • Firewall blocking outgoing connections
  • Mandatory corporate proxy
  • Antivirus with network filtering
  • Filtering of non-standard ports
  • DNS blocking

Which ports must be allowed?

Outgoing TCP:

  • 21115
  • 21116
  • 21117
  • 21118

To:

  • rustdesk.pointdev.net

How can I test whether the port is blocked?

From PowerShell on the workstation running IDEAL ADMINISTRATION or IDEAL REMOTE:

Test-NetConnection rustdesk.pointdev.net -Port 21116

If the test fails, the network blockage is confirmed.

How can I check whether the issue comes from the corporate network?

  1. Connect the workstation through a 4G/mobile hotspot
  2. Test the RustDesk connection

If it works, the blockage comes from the company firewall or proxy.

What is the most reliable solution in a professional environment?

Set up an internal server:

RustDesk Server

Advantages:

  • Operation without Internet dependency
  • No external firewall blockage
  • Better stability
  • Full control over connections

Does this error mean that the remote workstation is offline?

No.
It only means that communication with the relay server is blocked.

Is this error related to Windows or Active Directory?

No.
This is an outgoing network connectivity issue.
