How to use the RustDesk remote control tool in IDEAL ADMINISTRATION?

RustDesk Error: "Failed to connect to rs-ny.rustdesk.com:21116"

I have just tested your new workstation connection tool (RustDesk). I consistently receive the following error: "Connection error. Failed to connect to rs-ny.rustdesk.com:21116: Please try again later.". My tests are being performed on a local network. The services required for the feature to function properly appear to be running. Do you have any idea what might be blocking it?

What does this error mean?

This error indicates that the workstation is unable to establish an outgoing connection to the public relay server of RustDesk :

  • Server: rs-ny.rustdesk.com
  • Port: TCP 21116

The issue is generally related to a network restriction.

Why does RustDesk attempt to contact this server?

RustDesk operates in three steps:

  1. Contacting a “rendezvous” server
  2. Attempting a direct connection between the two machines (P2P)
  3. If it fails ? using a relay server (port 21116)

Even on a local network, RustDesk initially attempts to contact the public server.

Can it work on a local network without Internet access?

Yes, theoretically.

If:

  • Both machines are on the same network
  • No internal firewall is blocking communications

The connection can be established directly.

However, if Internet outbound access is blocked, RustDesk may display the error even on LAN.

What are the most common causes?

  • Firewall blocking outgoing connections
  • Mandatory corporate proxy
  • Antivirus with network filtering
  • Filtering of non-standard ports
  • DNS blocking

Which ports must be allowed?

Outbound TCP:

  • 21115
  • 21116
  • 21117
  • 21118

To:

  • rs-ny.rustdesk.com

How can I test whether the port is blocked?

From PowerShell on the machine running IDEAL ADMINISTRATION or IDEAL REMOTE:

Test-NetConnection rs-ny.rustdesk.com -Port 21116

If the test fails ? network blocking is confirmed.

How can I verify whether the issue comes from the corporate network?

  1. Connect the workstation via a 4G hotspot
  2. Test the RustDesk connection

If it works ? the blocking comes from the company firewall or proxy.

What is the most reliable solution in a professional environment?

Set up an internal server:

RustDesk Server

Advantages:

  • Operation without Internet dependency
  • No external firewall blocking
  • Improved stability
  • Full control over connections

Does this error mean that the remote workstation is offline?

No.
It only indicates that communication with the relay server is blocked.

Is this error related to Windows or Active Directory?

No.
It is an outbound network connectivity issue.
