Installing and upgrading our software

How can I migrate from the 32-bit version to the 64-bit version of IDEAL ADMINISTRATION?

I have been using your IDEAL ADMINISTRATION software in its 32-bit version for several years, and I would now like to switch to the 64-bit version. What are the prerequisites, and how can I carry out this migration?

If you are using the 32-bit version of IDEAL ADMINISTRATION, you must also have a 32-bit version of Microsoft Access or Microsoft Office installed. By contrast, the 64-bit version of IDEAL ADMINISTRATION works only with a 64-bit version of Microsoft Access, or with a 64-bit Microsoft SQL Server database.

Therefore, if your environment uses, for example, 32-bit Microsoft Office with 32-bit MS Access, we recommend installing Microsoft SQL Server Express 64-bit in order to migrate to IDEAL ADMINISTRATION 64-bit without changing your current Microsoft Office installation.

Recommended procedure:

  • Download and install IDEAL ADMINISTRATION 64-bit. The installation will be performed in the Program Files\Pointdev\IDEAL Administration folder without modifying your current installation.
  • Download and install Microsoft SQL Server Express 64-bit.
  • Configure the Microsoft SQL database in the ODBC Data Source Administrator (64-bit) by following this guide: Configure a SQL Server Express database.
  • From the 32-bit version of IDEAL ADMINISTRATION, export the configuration using the File > Export settings menu.
  • Then launch the 64-bit version of IDEAL ADMINISTRATION and set the Microsoft SQL database as the default database using the Tools > Options > Database menu.
  • Finally, import the previously exported configuration using the File > Import settings menu.
