How to troubleshoot the "Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network" message?

When i try to add remotely, through your software, a network printer on a computer, I receive the following error message : "Windows can't open Add Printer. Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network."

Therefore the Add Printer Wizard is not launched.

What can I do ?

"Windows can't open Add Printer. Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network." is a native message of Microsoft Windows Operating System and is not directly related to Pointdev software.

  • First, you should check if the "Print Spooler / Spooler" service is up and running on the remote computer.
  • If this is already the case, and if the computer runs Windows 2003 Server or higher OS, check in the Group Ploicy Editor if the print spooler accepts remote client connections. Follow these steps:
    • Start menu, Execute, "gpedit.msc"
    • Browse to "Computer Configuration" / "Administrative Templates" / "Printers".
    • In the right pane, double-clic on the policy"Allow Print Spooler to accept client connections".
    • Enable this setting, then Apply.
    • Then restart on the remote computer the "Print Spooler / Spooler" service in order to take changes into account.
